Robots greeting people on Science Saturday

Science Saturday at the Utica Children’s Museum was a Hit

CoveyCS team at the Utica Children's Museum

We at CoveyCS would like to thank everyone who came and attended Science Saturday with us. We had the honor of sponsoring the day at the Utica Children’s Museum this past weekend. Our “little” spokesman, the CoveyCS dancing robot, was just as happy to see you all as we were. The Future Engineers Group from Mohawk Valley Community College, as well as the amazing staff at the Utica Children’s Museum were there to join us for this special event.

Science Saturday celebrated National Engineers Week as part of the Utica Children’s Museum’s February Break celebration. The event gave the Future Engineers Group the opportunity to introduce the children to the various fields of engineering including mechanical, civil and electrical engineering. The engineers’ group had various engineering technologies, including drones, on display to get the children excited about the exploration of the engineering field. We had some of our talent there too. Software developers, as well as support staff, were at the Children’s Museum greeting those who attended at the front door. We introduced ourselves and handed out dancing robots who seemed to be our honorary spokespeople of the day. This gave our developers and staff the opportunity to meet the public and local children the opportunity to learn about software engineering.

Taking part in Science Saturday provided us the opportunity to support our local community and convey the importance of pursuing education and potentially a career in the STEM fields. STEM fields will have, and are starting to have, a huge impact on the global economy with the continued advancement of the IoT, AI, machine learning, and automation, the need for qualified and capable people to work in these fields is expected to grow greatly. Getting the children excited about the possibilities in a career with the STEM fields will not only provide future career security, but will provide a rewarding career where many advancements will be expected to help society.

We were pleased with the turnout of the event and the ability to educate the children with the importance of the STEM fields. We wanted to thank everyone in attendance as well as the Future Engineers Group for attending. Shout out to WKTV for covering the event!
